My brothers and sisters

While worshiping today, my heart was in pain after all that is happening with the undocumented families in our midst. I was not able to raise my hands today because the pain was crushing my soul and spirit. Please keep these families in your prayers, because it affects even the families I am working with, because they are so afraid to be torn apart. 

I started to think about it more and more, and I came up with this though:

True spirituality is within us, wherever we seek it—whether in God, the universe, the community, or the church. We cannot raise our hands in praise unless we are willing to reach out to the oppressed, the lonely, the persecuted. Spirituality must be present every day, not just on Sundays. Sitting at Jesus’ table is a table of community and acceptance, and it requires us to practice the love and grace we have received from Him. The table of Christ is a table of tolerance and compassion. 

May you continue to find ways to welcome everybody to this table, whether they have not the proper documents to be in the country, or they have a different sexual identity.

Una Pequeña Nota para mis Pastores

Mis hermanos y hermanas

Durante el servicio de hoy, sentí un profundo dolor por todo lo que está sucediendo con las familias indocumentadas que nos rodean. No pude levantar las manos hoy porque el dolor me oprimió el alma y el espíritu. Por favor, mantengan a estas familias en sus oraciones, porque esto afecta incluso a las familias con las que trabajo, pues tienen mucho miedo de ser separadas.

Y mientras me encontraba pensando, y se me ocurrió esto:

La verdadera espiritualidad está dentro de nosotros, donde quiera que la busquemos: ya sea en Dios, el universo, la comunidad o la iglesia. No podemos alzar las manos en alabanza a menos que estemos dispuestos a acercarnos a los oprimidos, las solitarias, los perseguidos. La espiritualidad debe estar presente todos los días, no solo los domingos. Sentarse a la mesa de Jesús es una mesa de comunidad y aceptación, y requiere que practiquemos el amor y la gracia que hemos recibido de Él. La mesa de Cristo es una mesa de tolerancia y compasión.

Que sigan encontrando maneras de acoger a todos en esta mesa, ya sea que no tengan la documentación necesaria para estar en el país o tengan una identidad sexual diferente.
